In 2019 Courage MKE opened Wisconsin’s first licensed group home for displaced LGBTQ+ youth on Milwaukee’s southside. Our staff and volunteers are committed to creating an environment in which each resident understands they are a part of the much larger Courage MKE Family. Our trauma informed philosophy is built into our program and incorporated into all day to day activities. We believe that in order for our residents to heal their trauma they must have a safe, affirming home first. We are committed to supporting all aspects of their identities including gender, sexual orientation, and race.

As of late 2023 we are working to open our second location, the C2 Apartments, just a few minutes from Courage House. Forty percent of homeless young adults identify as LGBTQ+, many of which age out of the foster care system without continued support. Our unique model will provide them with the emotional and physical support as they obtain a degree or enter the workforce.

scholarships

Courage MKE believes that everyone should have access to post high school education whether through a trade school, certificate program or four-year university. Since 2015, we have provided over $24,000 in scholarships for post high school education.

The Jackie Roberts Memorial Scholarship is awarded to high school juniors and seniors who are members of their school’s Gay Straight Alliance (or equivalent) and is to be applied toward their post high school education. The scholarship is paid directly to the university, college, or trade school into which the recipient has been accepted.
